There was tension between the Armenian and Azerbaijani representatives at the OSCE meeting in Vienna
Today, the international conference on “Torture and Other Grave Breaches of International Humanitarian Law and Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law: Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting II” organized by the OSCE Chairpersonship of North Macedonia, OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) continued its work in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
The issue of current conflicts and cases of torture in the OSCE region was widely discussed at the meeting attended by representatives from OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions and other executive structures and international organizations, civil society and other stakeholders and representatives of state institutions from 57 countries.
Speaking at the event, the head of the Turkish Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, expressed his protest to the presentation of the former ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan as an expert of the Council of Europe and reminded the Armenian ombudsman’s fascist statements. Stating that the Armenian ombudsman Arman Tatoyan justified the occupation of Azerbaijani lands and defended the occupation policy of Armenia during the 44-day war, human rights defender Dr. Ahmad Shahidov also brought to the attention of the meeting participants that Armenia committed war crimes at the state level.
This speech of Dr. Ahmad Shahidov caused the protest of the representative of Armenia, and the permanent representative of Armenia in the OSCE tried to interrupt the speech of the Azerbaijani human rights defender using the right of veto. Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, a human rights defender whose speech was suspended twice, drew attention to the fact that during the 44-day Second Karabakh War, the Armenian army targeted Azerbaijani civilians, rockets were fired at civilian objects in Ganja, Barda, Tartar and Mingachevir and other cities.
Later, Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, who raised the issue of mines buried by Armenia, said that Armenia continues to commit landmine crimes even after the agreement of November 10, 2020.
